Editorial : Why Apple is afraid of Google and Android

The biggest threat to Apple iPhone is now Google’s Android Operating System. RIM’s Blackberry is also a threat but not as big as Android.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs publicly expressed his anger against Google during the iPhone 4.0 OS Q&A session. Read more to find out what he said.

“You know, there’s a porn store for Android. Anyone can download them. You can, your kids can. That’s just not a place we want to go,” Jobs said

Steve Jobs also unveiled iAd – Apple’s own mobile advertising platform and to quote him “Listen, we don’t know much about this advertising stuff. We’re learning. We tried to buy this company called AdMob and Google came in and snatched them from us. We bought this other much smaller company called Quattro and they’re teaching us. But we’re babes in the woods.”

He admitted that Apple lacks knowledge of advertising and they tried to buy Admob and Google bought them.

Apple is suing HTC and Nokia for patent infringements but Apple is suing HTC mainly due to their Android handsets and this was seen as a move against Google rather  the handset maker HTC.

Apple has also removed Google branding from iPhone 4.0 OS and the iPad according to Macrumours

There have also been reports that Apple might pick Microsoft Bing as the default search engine on the iPhone.

Now why is Apple afraid of Google Android ? iPhone users are not finding the device interesting. Many users are disappointed about lack of hardware improvements.  In USA, iPhone is sold exclusively on AT&T and many users have switched to rival networks due to network issues.

And owning an iPhone is a costly affair incase you’re on a contract. The surge in iPod sales indicate that users love the iPhone OS but not the iPhone and the bills associated with it ! An Android or Symbian phone along with an iPod touch would be the best combo for users who want the best of both worlds !
