If you were thinking that Samsung made a good decision to stick with a 1440p panel on the Note 5 instead of going for the rumored 4k display then you aren’t alone. We’ve reached ridiculously high pixel densities on our smartphones that have more than enough sharpness and detail. However, it looks like the resolution wars are far from over as Samsung have announced that they’re planning to make a mobile display with 11k resolution.
The 11k display would translate to 2250 pixels per inch. If you’re thinking that this is some kind of joke then no it isn’t. Samsung is apparently very serious about it and is partnering with the South Korean government to develop it. They will invest 26.5 million dollars on the project over a course of 5 years.
Around 13 companies, both domestic as well as international will be involved. The project is known as EnDK and is expected to be up for show as a public prototype at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. A screen that is 5.75″ in size and has an aspect ratio of 16:9 will have a resolution of 11,264 x 6336 pixels which has a pixel density 4 times higher than current Quad-HD smartphones.
