Google Chrome is the latest app that has joined the billion installs club. The popular browser form Google has clocked over 1 billion installs on the Play Store.

The number is impressive considering that unlike most of the other Google apps and services, Chrome was not initially pre-installed on many devices. It was first released in 2012, the app only supported Android devices running Android 4.0 and above and it was only with Android 4.1 and the Nexus 7 did the app start coming bundled with Nexus devices.

Last month, Facebook Messenger became the 10th app to hit 1 billion installs. In addition, Google Hangouts also achieved the billion install mark a couple weeks ago. Google Chrome is the 12th app to hit 1 billion installs. It must be noted that 1 billion are just the number of installs and this does not mean that users are actually using Chrome on a billion devices.
