Google Maps to get offline turn by turn navigation and search

Google has announced some important features for Maps at the ongoing I/O conference. The company is bringing offline turn by turn search and navigation to Google Maps.

With offline mode, you will be able to get voice guided turn by turn navigation that will make it easy to reach your destination. In addition, Maps will also offer information about place and point of interest such as hotels, cafes, stores and more. The latest initiative especially targets developing countries like India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka which suffer from poor internet speed and limited data connections.

Prior to this update, users could download a portion of a map for offline use, but when the latest update rolls out they will be able to search and get auto-complete results even without an internet connection. Maps will also offer other information about these places like restaurant reviews, timings and so on. The new offline functionality is coming to Google Maps later this year. Offline Maps will surely be welcomed by millions of users in the aforementioned emerging markets who struggle with high speed internet.
