The ‘Works with Certification’ program will let manufacturers thatbuild virtual reality viewers based on the original design. These new tools can auto-configure any VR viewer to work well with every Cardboard app irrespective of the material it is made like plastic, wood or cardboard. Manufacturers will have to place a specific QR code on their Cardboard-certified VR as per the program rules. Users will scan this QR code found on any headset with the “Works with Google Cardboard” badge, and from there all apps will automatically be adjusted to account for that viewer’s specific design.

Google has expanded the Cardboard apps that include new categories like Music and Video, Games, and Experiences. Moreover, Google has updated the developer tools that help optimize the user experience as well as make finding these virtual reality apps and games easier in Google Play. Google has also acquired two companies, Thrive Audio to bring “immersive audio to VR, and Tilt Brush 3D painting VR game for “making VR better together.”
