reliance 100 million Last year  Airtel achieved 100 million customers landmark and now its turn of Reliance communications making itself the 2nd largest cellular service provider of India in terms of customer base which includes both CDMA and GSM users.

Reliance communication is one among the few cellular service provider in the country providing services in both GSM and CDMA platform. Well, with the attractive tariffs that Reliance recently came up with, its no wonder that Reliance gained the reputation of being the 2nd largest service provider of the country. Another interesting fact is, Reliance is the 4th largest player in the world having more than 100 million customers.

Syed Safawi, CEO – Wireless Business, Reliance Communications said:

We are delighted and humbled and thank our 100 million wireless customers who helped us cross this landmark in such a short span of time. We also owe this achievement to our trade partners who have bestowed confidence in the Reliance Mobile brand. We shall strive to offer our CDMA and GSM services in new geographies and make it the most technologically superior service in India. We plan to share and celebrate this success on March 20th, 2010, which will become a memorable day in the history of telecom in India.

As seen on this post, Reliance have also unveiled a new logo for the achievement of this landmark and a customized new hello-tune.

By the way, it seems like there will be a huge party for the folks in Reliance on March 20 to mark this achievement.

The Hrithik Roshan magic is definitely working for Reliance

i doubt the number of active ones.

    Any figures for Vodafone??

      Hello Kunal!

With respect to your question of active Reliance Mobile Phones, I do not see any reason as to why Reliance would circulate this information without having a sold ground beneath their foot. Moreover, TRAI also keeps a close watch on the number of connections given away and are in use. Furthermore, a certain percentage of revenue come from mobile telephony goes to the state-owned telephone companies for providing services at the remote areas of the country. Why Reliance would increase their liability towards state-owned telephone companies? Keeping these facts in mind, I do not see any valid reason to doubt on the information. However, it cannot be rulled out that there may be a few percentage of the customers who would not be using or keeping switched-off their Reliance mobiles.

Regarding Vodafone customer base, they also have a good volume of customers in their kitty but number is surely far below 100 millions mark.

      Thanks!

    Congratulations Reliance!

Besides AirTel GSM since 2002, I have been using Reliance CDMA since 2004. While AirTel has got really good network coverage all over the India, Reliance has improved its network coverage pan India. There is a very huge quality improvement registered by Reliance from 2004 to 2010. While AirTel still has good network, they are quite expensive to their customers. On the other hand, Reliance has given really good cost benefits to its patrons and this is the reason why their customer base is growing like anything. If they continue with the same pace, they will soon leave AirTel behind and may be next year they will be celeberating the mark of 150 Million Customers while AirTel may be at 140 Million.

This is high time for AirTel to look at their call, SMS and VAS rates and reduce them to keep the customers on board. Last but not the least, the Mobile Number Portability will also take its toll on AirTel because the customers who were not moving out from AirTel due to number change will get an opportunity to do so. Who knows a good number of customers may fall in Reliance kitty.

    Good Luck to Reliance!

And AirTel Beware of upcoming king in Indian Telecommunication Industry.

The numbers for reliance is definitely increasing day by day,no doubt became the No.2 in India. But they are only celebrating for numbers and not for service quality they provide. They are the worst service providers in India for me. They should count the numbers for satisfied customers rather than celebrating for numbers.By there cheap tariff plans they can only increase numbers not satisfaction level of customers. Reaching the heights of AIRTEL will remain distance dream for relianace.
Please upgrade your self Mr. reliance to fight with Mr. Airtel!!!

      Dear Mayank,

I trust you have not read my first blog that’s why you have doubted me as Mr. Reliance. Let me update you that I have been using AirTel since 2002 and still on their network. I have also praised the kind of network and connectivity AirTel offers to its customers is unparalleled and unmatched today. My blog was all about to caution AirTel to pass on the real cost benefits to its customers else their crown for No. 1 may be taken over by Reliance shortly. As regards to services of Reliance, I am using Reliance from their first day in telecommunication industry and I have noticed the significant improvement in their network and connectivity. They might not be having as deeper penetration as AirTel, but again this is a matter of worry to AirTel because despite of not having deeper penetration in the market, they have crossed the landmark of 100 Million customers, that too in a short span of 7 years. AirTel took over 15 years to reach this landmark.

I am updated (not upgraded) and thank for giving me the known information once again for revision.

      Thanks!
