Opera Mini 5 Hands On

on March 16, 2010 – 3:48 pm5 Comments

Opera Mini 5 just got released and we just got our hands on the app.  If you have been using the beta you wont notice much of a difference except for a improvement in speed. The ability to browse over 10 tabs on a tiny mobile screen is  so impressive

The software uses special server side compression to compress pages before sending it to your phone. This means you save on data charges and also on battery life. It’s got a speed dial ,download manager and even offline browsing in the name of saved pages. You can sync bookmarks and other information with Opera PC software using Opera Link. You can copy text from the app to the phone or search the selected text on Google.  You enter this mode by a long press. It’s possible to open links in new tabs.

Here are some screenshots of Opera Mini 5 in action on a Nokia E72

And if you found any new feature in the final version compared to the beta , let us know !

Beta was better. Final version hangs every now and then. Had to uninstall and go back to beta. Enabling opera link also crashes the browser. Not sure if it is a problem only with my phone or with all the phones. I use nokia 5800.

Oh no, this is not an improvement. It is worst than the beta. Hung so bad that I had to do a battery pull to exit the program. I then uninstalled it and await RIM’s browser.
