Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones at the MWC 2015 earlier this week. The design of the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge are completely different from earlier flagship smartphones in the Galaxy S series. The port placements on the bottom and the curved corners in the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge are similar to the Apple iPhone 6, so we decided to quickly compare both the smartphones. Coming to the specifications, both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge have a 5.1-inch Quad HD (2560×1440 pixels) 577 PPI Super AMOLED display compared to the 4.7-inch (1334 x 750 pixels) 326 PPI IPS screen.  The S6 and S6 Edge have a 5-megapixel front-facing camera compared to 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera on the iPhone 6. These Samsung flagships are powered by a Octa-Core ( Quad 2.1GHz + Quad 1.5GHz) Exynos processor, feature 3GB DDR4 and run on Android 5.0 (Lollipop), compared to Apple A8 processor with dual-core custom ARMv8 64-bit cores clocked at 1.4GHz per core, 1GB RAM and runs on iOS 8.

Both these smartphones have a fingerprint sensor on the home button. Unlike swipe-based fingerprint sensors on earlier Samsung devices, the Galaxy S6 devices have touch-based fingerprint scanner.

The iPhone 6 has a 8-megapixel rear camera with True Tone Flash, but lacks heart-rate monitor and OIS. The S6 and S6 Edge have Cat.6 LTE support that would offer download speed of up to 300Mbps compared to Cat.4 LTE on the iPhone 6 that offers a maximum download speed of up to 150Mbps.

Two similarities between these two are built-in battery and lack of expansion slot. These Samsung smartphones come in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB variants. The Apple iPhone 6 comes in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB variants. The Galaxy S6 has a 2,550mAh battery and the Galaxy S6 Edge has a 2,600mAh battery, compared to 1,810mAh battery on the iPhone. We will be doing a detailed comparison between the Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6 when the Galaxy S6 launches in India next month.
