Nokia buys Plazes Location Based Social Network

Nokia acquired German Location Based Social networking start-up Plazes.com, as part of its push into offering internet services on its cell phones. Nokia is set to release GPS cell phones from its staples during this year and acquisition of the 13 people strong startup company makes sense.

Plazes.com allows users to plan activities, record their experiences and share ideas similar to twitter.

“This acquisition helps Nokia to accelerate its vision of bringing people and places closer together, in line with our broader services strategy” says Niklas Savander, Head of Nokia’s Internet services.

No financial details were disclosed on the Nokia-Plazes deal.
