Viber unveils Public Chat feature in India


Viber has rolled out Public Chat feature in beta in India which is a social media platform for users to engage with celebrities, personalities and brands.

The company will allow users to discover, share and interact with conversations, communities and content on mobile devices.Conversations will include text, photos, audio, video, stickers, web links and more. Users can invite friends to follow the Public Chats that interest them, and can share content. Viber users can follow a large number Public chats of their interest on their mobile devices.

“The release of public chats on Viber allows people to interact in a new way, listening to live discussions and staying up-to-date with exclusive content from the people and interests that matter to them most. We are launching this with a great line-up of celebrities, personalities, brands, influencers all over India,”

said Anubhav Nayyar, country head-India, Viber.

Globally, Viber has 311 such chat partners and 56 in India. These include a broad range of celebrities, brands and personalities including Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Sonu Nigam, Ayushmann Khurrana, Shaan and many more. There will be some world acclaimed sports celebrities too like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Saina Nehwal. The most popular chats will be featured on the home screen of the Public Chats section of Viber. Users can easily search to find out who is chatting, or they can access a chat directly through its customized URL.

Moreover, Viber has also announced that India is the largest market after US and  Russia. It currently has 33 million users in the country and is among the top 5 revenue generators for the company. As of Novermber 24th, Viber has460 million unique users across platforms including iOS, Android and Desktop. The company said that it will have more than 500 million users at the end of this year.
