Samsung develops 60GHz Wi-Fi technology to boost data transmission speed

Samsung has developed a new 60GHz WiFi technology that is capable of speeds five times faster than current WiFi speeds. The technology is capable of enabling data transmission speeds of up to 4.6Gbps.

In other words the data transmission speed increases five times faster than the current ceiling for Wi-Fi speeds for consumer electronics devices, which stands at around 866 megabits per second (Mbps), or 108 MB per second.

“Unlike the existing 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi technologies, Samsung’s 802.11ad standard 60GHz Wi-Fi technology maintains maximum speed by eliminating co-channel interference, regardless of the number of devices using the same network. By doing so, Samsung’s new technology removes the gap between theoretical and actual speeds, and exhibits actual speed that is more than 10 times faster than that of 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi technologies.”

read the Samsung’s official press note.

Samsung has said that they are expecting to bring this new 60GHz technology to market in 2015 and they plan to bring this new super fast WiFi to a wide range of devices.
