Aamir Khan signs major deal with Etilsat for 35 crores

on January 22, 2010 – 4:48 pm3 Comments

Actor Aamir Khan has signed up as a Brand Ambassador for UAE based Etilsat’s upcoming Indian venture. The deal is pegged at Rs.30-35 crore

Etilsat was planning to make foray into India in the name of Swan Telecom in a Joint Venture but was later renamed as ETISALAT DB TELECOM INDIA PVT. LTD. Etilsat had signed up Aamir Khan to promote Etilsat’s services in the country for the next 3 years. This deal was signed before the release of the latest blockbuster 3 Idiots .  Seems like the latest entrant to the Indian Telecom space has stuck the right chord by signing up the Bollywood Hero.  Indian telecom is heavily dominated by Celebrities -  Deepika Padukone for BSNL , Abhishek for Idea,Shahrukh Khan, Madhavan for Airtel, Hrithik Roshan for Reliance, Dhoni for Aircel  and most recently Ranbir and Genelia for Virgin Mobile. Vodafone India chose an alternative approach by creating the ZooZoos

A company owned by a government which had always shown discriminating attitude towards indians in uae, has strict visa rules especially for indians, kicked out indians at 1st choice in recession, never paid thousands of indian labourers that built the tallest building these rulers pride on, never allowed any indian telecom operator to enter its country, and is now being promoted by an indian to compete against domestic operators in India. Despite the fact the Indian government has never actually bothered about NRIs but just concentrated on 3% of GDP money that NRIs bring back to India, the government has really not considered any analysis on giving etisalat a license in India. Has our government and Aamir khan lost all values? Business is business afterall. Its a disgrace. Morals and values just dont exist in our country.

It is a must for the countries to open up their market before they can invest in similiar sectors globally so in UAE they had Etisalat for donkey years and then 3 years back launched Du to show the world that they have opened up their market to competition when in reality both belong to UAE govt. This gave Etisalat the ticket to buy telecom rights in other countries. Bilateral trade and other factors cannot be ignored when indian govt opens up its door to outside investment.UAE and India has a long tradition, guess its just keeping everyone happy one way or the other. Shah Rukh endorsed Du in UAE and this move to rope in Aamir would be beneficial to Etisalat.

Recession and its repercrussion was non discriminatory even the Goras were the first to be chucked out since they had higher salaries.

Indian Govt should fix labours problem by devising guidelines and minimum salary requirement the same way as Philipines and China have done.
