Xiaomi announce Redmi 1S for Indonesia

It hasn’t been long since Xiaomi announced the affordable Redmi 1S for India, but the fast rising Chinese company has announced the device for another market — Indonesia.

Xiaomi Redmi-4

Xiaomi took the aggressive route when it came to pricing in India, and announced it for only 5,999 INR or roughly $99. However, Indonesians will have to pay IDR 1.5 million or roughly $128 to be able to take home the Redmi 1S. Although it isn’t India-cheap, the $128 equivalent price tag is a good $8 cheaper than the Redmi 1S’s price for Singapore.

Specifications

  • 4.7-inch 1280 x 720p display
  • 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 SoC
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB expandable storage
  • 8 mega-pixel rear camera
  • 1.6 mega-pixel front camera
  • 2000mAh battery
  • MIUI V5 based onAndroid v4.3
  • Dual SIM

The device will go on sale via online retailer Lazada. The first flash sale is pegged to start at 11am on September 4, but will only last an hour.

Xiaomi has been able to win a lot of fans in India with its highly competitive pricing. In fact, I feel that Xiaomi is actually selling its devices at a loss in India in order to build a strong goodwill for its name. Considering it isn’t selling too many devices, that’s really a possibility.
