Uber opens up API for third party developers along with affiliate program

In a bid to expand its reach across service, Uber has introduced Application Programming Interface (API) for developers. The popular on demand car service has opened its API for developers that will enable developers to integrate its on-demand transport services into their own applications.

Uber API

“As of today, we officially open—to all developers—access to many of the primitives that power Uber’s magical experience. Apps can pass a destination address to the Uber app, display pickup times, provide fare estimates, access trip history and more”.

said Uber in a company blog post.

The API provides developers with everything from the ability to display pickup times or provide fare estimates. There’s also a feature that lets developers add trip history to their programs. Uber has already partnered with 11 companies, including Expensify, Hinge, Hyatt, Momento, OpenTable, Starbucks, Tempo Smart Calendar, Time Out, TripAdvisoer, TripCase, and United Airlines. The company said that it is targeting “any app with a map” as a potential partner.

The latest move comes from the company just two months after integrating its service with Google Maps, allowing smartphone users to review its travel times against walking and various modes of public transport.

In addition to its new open API for other developers, Uber has also introduced a new affiliate program for earning credits toward free rides with the service. Uber is present in 150 cities and nearly 50 countries around the world including 10 cities in India.
