Nokia E72 gets a firmware update to v22.007

on January 12, 2010 – 10:28 am15 Comments

The Nokia E72 has got it’s first firmware update since its public launch. There’s a new firmware update to version 22.007. Although the SW Update app on the phone indicates that a new phone software is available, one cannot update the firmware Over the Air ( FOTA) .  You need to use Nokia Software Updater (NSU) to get the job done. While there is no official changelog as of now, looks like this is an update to fix some bugs and performance related issues.

Although the E72 supports UDP or  User Data Preservation its highly recommended to take a backup before proceeding with the update. We are not taking a chance !

We would love to update the firmware Over the Air and avoid downloading some 160 MB of data and trouble our networks. Although the E75 had some issues one being dismal battery life, it was a breeze to update the firmware  on the E75 over the air.

Although the E72 supports FOTA . looks like the rollout through that channel is slower than NSU.

N900 bought in UK or Europe should work here fine as the network bands are the same.

got the update in the Netherlands by the Ovi Suite, took 3 minutes, no sign of large amounts of Mb’s…
haven’t figured out the changes yet…
had some problems with pairing of the Parrot-bluetooth handsfree set, will try it later today

Maemo is pretty easy to use but lacks some features present in Symbian. You should find it easy to use.

I tried getting this firmware upgrade by hooking up the phone with USB and using Nokia OVI Suite. It says there are no upgrades. I am in hyderabad. Does india not have it yet?

  • Sathish

I also tried in nokia website and for my product code, it does not give any upgraded firmware. Does it take time to get this done for India geography ? Any one has any idea on this timeline for India ?Thanks.

Same here i tried using the latest Software Updater but I also received the same result no upgrade yet is there something wrong with the model code… because a see the other E72 other symbols such as “!”, “?” are placed in different keys maybe thats the reason.. because mine i bought it in Middle East and the code is something to do with the regions. Help please if someone knows about this…

    Hello all,

I am from the UK, I have an unbranded E72 and have had zero issues with it, to be fait it took a bit longer than I had hoped to set up email but that is life. I moved from the Iphone that I had to this. I am happy with the phone, the screen colours seem a lot richer than I phone as when I am using E72 then look at my wife’s Iphone 3GS the screen looks a little, washed out.

I can recommend the Symbian App “Mobbler,” Fantastic – basically Spotify without the monthly subscription.

I updated my E72 over the air today on O2 Network, I had no problems updating, the phone did all the work, a lot easier than updating an Iphone lol.

I have yet to notice any changes too but I am sure it is best to keep up to date with the updates.

I am running 3 Email accounts via noki messaging at the minute on phone, finding it fairly straight forward and user friendly, one tip is that if you set up your email accounts first online with nokia messaging they can text you a download link for all your account details, this cuts out all the niggly navigation through Symbian menus. However not just as smooth as the Iphone email but still very handy.

hey guys, regarding the update i have just one question that the quick office and the adobe reader will be gone with new update or not, cause i really dont want to reload the trial version again and pay for the full version later than having them already on older version.
    thanks
