Recently, Samsung Electronics launched Samsung Corby Speed, the CDMA version of its popular phone Samsung Corby. This handset has been tagged as “Mobile Phone with Broadband”. To promote this device, some major Indian CDMA operators like Reliance Communications, MTS India and TATA Indicom has joined hands with Samsung to provide free internet usage bundled with this amazing device.

Reliance Communications:
Reliance CDMA postpaid subscribers will get free data usage upto 15GB/month for two months, i.e. 15GB x 2 months = 30GB. Reliance CDMA prepaid subscribers will get free data usage of 10 GB which has to be used within 30 days

MTS India:
MTS India subscribers will get free data usage of 5GB/month for three months, i.e. 5GB x 3 months = 15GB. MTS India subscribers will also get unlimited free access to sites like Yahoo India, MakeMyTrip and Wikipedia.

TATA Indicom:
TATA Indicom subscribers will get free data usage of flat 10 GB which has to be used within 2 months.

Samsung Corby is already one of the most popular mobile phone in India and the new Samsung Corby Speed, that promises upto 2.4 Mbps speed with free data usage is definitely a great “value for money” device.

  • hrishikesh

whats the speed provided by reliance n tata indicom on cdma networks..??

  • Dil2Heart

Reliance has capabilities to offer wireless internet @ 3.1mbps and is being offered in Data cards currently as same stands true for Tata as well. So, this phone may not be a bad deal at all. I am planning to purchase one for myself.

  • Shekhar

No This is CDMA based phone and CDMA has already network to provide 2.4 MBPS broadband speed and it is cheaper also

  • suraj

does this phone use evdo for delivering such speeds?if yes,are the cdma operators offering these services to be used on a phone as it is alrady used on their usb data cards?

  • thetruth

nor reliance nor tata have corby speed on ther product list

  • tushal pandey

  • Dil2Heart

which place did u purchase this phone?
whats the price & hows it working?
what capacity memory card u got, if any?
and can u access rconnect through bluetooth, if u r using reliance?

  • amit

i purchased corby speed mumbai for 9100 . tried both reliance and tata RUIM but none of them can connect to internet .. message comes please upgrade ur RUIM . Reliance person tells I have to pay 100 rupees to get new sim card which will support the data services. But neither tata nor reliance customer care know of any data service plans tagged with corby speed. Infact those crazy ppl dont even know that on Times of India top page corby speed had advertised for free internet connection .. pathetic

  • pramod

I purchased Samsung Corby Speed in Hyderabad for Rs 9200.
When i inserted my old sim in this handset,i wasnt able to access internet due to the error “Pls upgrade the RUIM Card”.
This error is because this handset requires an OMH card instead of normal SIM card. The cell number needs to be transferred from your old sim card to the OMH card ,only then can a person access data services.I had to run after the dealer to arrange the OMH card .The dealer inturn had to get it from Samsung Support.I didnt have to pay anything for this OMH card.
The internet is really fast.I could even download my office mails. But,reliance CC or webworld or even corporatecentre.customercare@relianceada.com has no idea about the free 15GB plan !

    Hi amit and pramod

am planning to buy a corby speed in a day or two

i still dont konw the procedure about getting my data services activated. i thought once i get the rigth procedure, i will get the phone.

but the same, webworld does not konw of any such things, and samsung store says that they dont provide any such data connection nor its mentioned on any new box packed corby speed. please help

  • naman

how did u manage to get ur data services activated on ur old postpaid number ?

  • Joe

@amit, for getting the high speed 3G, you need to ask for an OMH SIM card from your operator. The Samsung Corby Speed is an OMH handset and works seamlessly across OMH SIM cards from all five CDMA operators – Tata, Reliance, Virgin, MTS and BSNL

  • Rahul

How one can get office mails on mobile? how to configure the same?can you send POP3 & smtp server details. network connection fail error is coming i tried the same several times

  • Pramod

    Hi All,

I have been using corby for quite some time and now i feel that its a real waste of money. Here is why

    1) Though reliance/Tata may offer internet 15GB free for two months but after these two months of free ride, the plans are pretty expensive ..some 1800 Rs

    2) even if #1 doesnt matter to you,if you try attempting to access web,the onboard touch screen keyboard sucks. On top of that,if you happened to configure it to access office mails, your phone would hang and would not even let to make/receive the calls.
The phone gets busy while downloading mails.

    3) Those who have questions to configure mails on corby,go to settings–>Applications Settings–>Messages–>Email Setup Wizard. You need to key in exact settings as you would do on thunderbird/outlook.

4)Battery backup is pathetic.Finding a number from phonebook is also cumbersome.

    5) With no wifi option ,this phone is not atall value for money.

    6) if you are reliance customer, you would need to fight with dumb most CC and the yet another stupid set of ppl at their web support. When they finally migrate your phone to the free usage account, they would bill you like anything ,despite promising that the services are free for two months.I was billed 395 for VPN Usage and 153 for VPN rentals ,while i never opted for these. After sending a mail to reliance, these nuts agreed to reverse the amount.

    No offense>just my thoughts.

what is the best buy for samsung corby speed CDMA in Mumbai.

  • sumit sharma

hi… m planning to buy this speed… should i go for it or not ???

  • Jay

Which Java applications work on Samsung Corby Speed and where should i find it from?

  • umesh

u do not need a corby speed . u can even use samsung 699. becos till today there is no broadband plan details which none of the reliance CC is able to answer.

so do not break ur head. wait for some time whenevery thing is clear and then buy the required hand sets

price is 8800. its working good, 2gb memory card free and 80 mb internal memory. for internet you have to switch to the supported ruim. you can use it with pc through data cable or bluetooth

  • Anonymous

  • Manju

yes it is having in-built EVDO and in phone u get 2 signals one EVDO signal and other 1X signal.

for voice calls it uses 1X signal
for data calls it uses EVDO signal

i have this phone and i have taken both voice plan and data plan form reliance.

and i am getting maximum of 1.2 mbps (not all the time 512 kbps to 1.2 Mbps)

  • frustrated internet user

    Hey

I am using the tata photon+ usb data card but it never gives me speeds of 3.1mbps as advertised.

on inquiring about the speed they said that on CDMA networks u can get an average speed of 144kbps. So guys if you are thinking of browsing at 2.4mbps…… Forget it.

  • raju

Hi, I have purchased Corby speed last week, I got it for 8300@ Hyderabad. for the RUIM sim 100/- I have activated sim with tata indicom.

Until there that was good, For the internet part it is sucking… it is not as promised as it was. NO 2.4 MB’s internet speed, i have installed an .Jar to see what exact speed am i getting, it is 40 to 50 Kb, for the other it is fine. It also lacks WIFI feature. It is not truly worth of 8000 to 9000 phone.

  • Amit Shinde

After reading all these comments. I have decided to wait and watch. ARe we still facing all these issues in Samsung Corby Speed? Shall I buy it now?..

  • S

Yes you sud go for it. As speed and RUIM change was having confusion at many outlets. but now as everyone is aware of this you won’t face any problem. And the best thing this Corby price had dipped and you can get it by paying as low as 7500 in mumbai.

  • alpesh

I used internet on Samsung corby as per the reliance offer of free usage for first two months. But there are so many bluffing facts hidden in this offer by the services providers. I’ve been succked off for two thousand ruppees due to this cheating offers. Please dont rely on such offers. By any means they will pick your pocket.

one thing al u guys shoulld knw is that all service providers list their speeds in kilo bits or mega bits per second. but all devices display the speed in kilo bytes or mega bytes per second. and as everyone knows that 1byte=8bits , so whatever speed the provider tells u, u should divide it by 8 to know the real speed. eg. if some one tels u 512kbps , it actually is 64kBps. notice that the bigger b here symbolises bytes and the smaller one bits.
