Airtel launching 3G services in India

on April 4, 2008 – 6:08 pm45 Comments

After the Indian government gave green flag to launching 3G services in India, Airtel has taken this story further. The company will be launching 3G services soon. Airtel has recently tested 3G applications with various suppliers and will be soon launching 3G services in India. Initially the company will be launching these services in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore cause these are the 2 places where Airtel has testes their 3G applications, reports Economic Times. The DoT will be allotting 3G spectrum to various mobile service players in India and Airtel will be taking good advantage of this opportunity. Airtel has also partnered with SingTel who has experience is offering 3G services. By the way, many countries have started adopting 4G when India is on its way to embrace 3G but I am sure that India will catch up soon.

Read that sentence and you can see three different cities, but is numbered 2 – - does the service come first to the 3 cities or just 2 of the 3 said above?

Dont cheer up so much,We are far behind from rest of the world.F**k the Govt as they dont know the importance of internet for our emerging youth. When we have to struggle to open a webpage in a dial up connection other people in the world are enjoying speeds of 8Mbps which is just the start.

I’m from Tamilnadu. I have mobile office GPRS activated in my airtel. If 3G comes and i’m having a 3G handset will i get 3G speed in mobile office. Does gprs changes to 3G. Or will there be a separate plan for 3G connection.

  • Dominic

We have been hearing this that 3G will be launched . But the question is when ? Neither the Govt nor the CEO’s of Various Service Providers give any kind of time frame and if this is going to be the condition the the word’s ” Will be available ” are going to be just words and nothing more than that .

This is very shameful that indian companies could not started 3G network service till now which are tata indicom, Airtel bharati, reliance companies. I think indian companies will take lots of years to launch it when other contries will passing 4G technolgy.

  • johnny

hey guys listen this is what is going to happen.
firstly the govt will keep on taunting the private players (airtel, vodafone .. etc) and will keep on delaying the auction for the spectrum division/bidding till the time all the ministers extract good money from them thru scams and what ever possoble to fill there ever expanding pockets and once water goes over the head then finally the 3g will be launched, and when it will be launched the private players will be in a huge debt that to recover there debts ther will raise the price of teh service and finally we are the people who will suffer. but i dont understand that the auction has been postponed so many times for one or the other reason. is there some one in the decision making deptt to decide what are factors involved (the reason which the bidding was postponed every time). i mean the govt is falling short of people who can make decisions or/and the polititians will bring India to ruins..

  • Manu

Be cautious in taking BSLL connection they will charge around 4000 permonth- for internet usage

    PSNL go die in hell

  • Arun

    ya its true

  • Bicentennial Man

Its a tragedy that despite so many promises 3G is still not available in India. Even the existing data plans of 2G are utterly expensive even after decades. The world is moving onto 4G as we speak. What is happening to this country? Why cant they roll out the services smoothly as promised instead of delaying?

I heard BSNL has rolled out 3G but their packages are ridiculously expensive and its not viable for anyone other than who are really rich. Reliance is offering 3G broadband but the astronomical prices of data plans mean we can only use them for occasional surfing. It’s definitely not a viable alternative.

I doubt if India will ever catch up with the rest of the world. We always seem to be late in everything.

  • Rahul

yes…all are very correct…the government is playing a big game not issuing license to private companies whilest their price themself is too high..this is shameless..!!

wanna know more abt 3 G in India the speed is the problem, can it b 2 mbps BSNL is only giving 921 kbps . can anybody tell abt AIRTEL 3 G service !

  • Sanjeev

You have summed up the situation correctly..

  • http://www.soma2uk.hi5.com Soma sundaram Perumal

    Hi !

As some body had mentioned, definitely India needs some fresh blood in the parliament and in the decision making machinery to cater to the modern ever changing fast world to co-op up with the trend to compete in the International arena. The small example is the previous Telecom Minister the young and educated Mr. Maran who was very efficient in bringing up lot of innovation in the industry. But he too succumbed to the dirty politics and lost the post>

With so many technocrats, entreprenuers and eminent personalities like Sam Pitroda,Vijay Maliah, Rattan Tata,Ambanis,Indra nooyi etc., whats happenning in India?
