Facebook to pull Messaging from main app, force users to download Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger

Facebook has started notifying users in a few European countries that it won’t offer messaging service on Facebook app in two weeks, according to a recent report from The Verge. Facebook users are asked to download the Facebook Messenger app to use messaging service. Facebook released the Messenger app for Windows Phone last month and it is also available for the Nokia X platform.

Since the Facebook Messenger is available on all the mobile platforms, it can easily force users to download this app from the respective app stores. According to the report Facebook has confirmed that they would soon remove the messaging feature from the main Facebook app in every country gradually. Low-end Android devices with memory constraints wouldn’t require to download the app. The Windows Phone app and the Paper app would continue to have built-in messaging feature.

The main reason for removing messaging feature from the main is said to make the app faster. Facebook could release Facebook Messenger for tablets if they remove messaging from the main app, since this is the only way tablet users can access it. Facebook Messenger also offers voice calling features, so it is likely to be available only for tablets. Facebook released a new version of the app for beta testers recently that still has Messages tab.
