Nokia’s iconic ringtone celebrates its 20th birthday. It was first introduced back in 1994 on the Nokia 2110 and has seen several changes over the years, but the melody has been the same, says Nokia. Each and every Nokia phone since 2110 came with the signature Nokia tune as the default ringtone.
Nokia even ran a contest to find a refreshed version of the tune for its Lumia Windows Phone handsets back in 2011. Nokia ran a similar contest in 2012 in several other countries including India to find the regional version of the ringtone for Nokia devices alongside for 2013.
In an interview to BBC back in 2011, Musician Thomas Dolby, who co-invented the ringtone synthesizer embedded in Nokia phones said that the Nokia theme was actually composed over 150 years ago by an obscure waltz composer. The Nokia ringtone is also called Grande Valse and was composed in 1902, and was released only after 92 years on the 2110, says Nokia.
